10 low-cost or FREE things to do this weekend at The Jersey Shore (January 16th – 18th)
When the tourists go away, the Jersey Shore and its communities continue to provide its residents with fun, affordable and new things to do. In the coming months, we will be highlighting these happenings for our fans and shedding some light on what is going on in our own backyards. #1: Winter Wine Open House
Location: Working Dog Winery, 610 Windsor-Perrineville Road, East Windsor
Date: Saturday, January 17th
Time: Noon – 5:00pm
Cost: $5
Description:
Just a short drive from the shore, visit Working Dog Winery this Saturday for wine, music and friendly hospitality during their Winter Wine Open House. Live music by Alex English will be provided from 1-5. They are food friendly, so bring some cheese, snacks or lunch and relax by the wood stove while you enjoy our award winning wines. If its not too cold, relax outside on their heated covered porch, overlooking the vineyard. Includes five samples.
#2: The Elvis Birthday Bash Starring Mike Albert and Scott Bruce
Location: Count Basie Theatre, 99 Monmouth Street, Red Bank
Date: Friday, January 16th
Time: 8:00pm
Cost: Tickets – $40, $35, $25, $20
Description: Two of the world’s top Elvis entertainers join forces to pay homage to the King of Rock N Roll! Actor and musician, Scot Bruce starts the evening with his 50’s era Elvis show. Scot has appeared on “Days of Our Lives,” the E! Channel’s “True Hollywood Story,” and in music videos by Sheryl Crow, Faith Hill and Tasmin Archer. Next Mike Albert, “The World’s Finest Elvis Impressionist” takes the stage. Mike is a 1st Prize Winner in the Hawaii Elvis Impersonator Contest, and the Images of Elvis Contest in Elvis’ own hometown, Memphis. He presents a sincere, respectful portrayal of “The King” that has earned endorsements by Elvis Presley’s own musicians and back-up singers. He regularly performs with the Jordanaires, Elvis’ own backing vocalists, and has appeared on “A Current Affair.”

#3: Open Ice Skating at Middletown Sports Complex
Location: 214 Harmony Road, Middletown
Date: Friday, January 16th
Time: 8:30pm – 10:30pm
Cost: adults $8, kids under 12 $7, skate rental $4
Description: Get the kids and head on out for a fun time gliding across the ice. We all had a blast ice skating as kids so make sure to give your kids the same memories while trying to minimize the bumps and bruises. Go grab some memories.
#4: Barbershop Music by The Oceanaires
Location: Jay & Linda Grunin Center for the Arts, Ocean County College, Toms River
Date: Sunday, January 18th
Time: 2:00pm
Cost: $20 adults/ $10 seniors and students with valid ID
Description: Enjoy an afternoon of Barbership music by the Oceanaires Chorus who have been performing in Ocean County for over 55 years featuring doo-wop, soft rock and other newer music. The Oceanaires pride themselves on being family entertainment, which is becoming scarce in today’s environment. They sing four-part, a cappella (unaccompanied by musical instrument) Barbershop-style harmony. The songs they sing take you back to a slower time when old-fashioned values were understood and adhered to. These songs invoke memories of mom, apple pie, the girl next door, God and Country. While they sing the old songs, they also sing show tunes and spirituals as well.

#5: Fisherman’s Flea Market
Location: Lacey High School, 73 Haines Street, Lanoka Harbor
Date: Friday, January 16th

Description: The Lacey Township High School Fishing Club hosts their 16th annual Fisherman’s Flea Market at the high school to fund outdoor educational experiences for Lacey students.

#6: Valentine’s Day Card Workshop
Location: Grove Hall Retreat Center, 15 Pilgrim Pathway, Ocean Grove
Date: Saturday, January 17th
Time: 10:30am – 1:00pm
Cost: $15 and a $5 kit fee – $20 total
Description: You will make three beautiful cards in this class! The product Staz-On will be featured. You will be incorporating old photos into your cards. Learn this fun technique and enjoy sharing your cards with someone special. If you have them available please remember to bring some old photos that you would like to use. You will be cutting them up so if they are blurry or just plain ready for the trash they are perfect for this class. Bring a pair of scissors if possible.
#7: Winter Beach Blast
Location: Ocean County Mall, Center Court

Description: Ocean County Park & Recreation will transform the mall’s Center Court into a tropical paradise with games, crafts, hula hoop and much much more! Sponsored by Ocean County Parks & Recreation. Ocean County Mall Kidgits Club. Music provided by WOBM. Buster from The Lakewood BlueClaws will also be there.
#8: Discover a Love of Music at Small Factory
Location: 560 River Road, Fair Haven
Date: Saturday, January 17th
Time: 2:00pm – 6:00pm
Cost: Love of music is Free but Kids Night is $35 per child, $25 sibling
Description: Meet Small Factory’s new music teachers, check out their recording booth, production studio, digital work stations, play instruments, and sing. Teachers will help children, ages 8+, to recreate the song, “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars. Be sure to stay after the event for Kids Night Out which is for children, ages 5 to 12, to watch movies, play on the computers, and sing and play instruments in the sound booth. These nights are also great opportunities for parents to enjoy a few hours of conversation and enjoy some great food locally . #9: Elegant Bridal Show
Location: Crystal Point Yacht Club, 3900 River Road, Point Pleasant

Description: This is a venue to meet the area’s top wedding professionals, experts and vendors and will feature a Broadway style fashion show featuring the latest in designer gowns and tuxedos for your wedding. There will be a live band and DJ performances as well. Each bride-to-be will receive a bridal bag filled with magazines and gifts. Honeymoon, Broadway show tickets, bachelorette party and Katie Couric VIP ticket giveaways are at every show.
