Exploring Atlantic City’s Steel Pier This Summer

There’s really no place quite like Atlantic City’s Steel Pier during the summer months at the Jersey Shore. Open daily, visitors of all ages can get a glimpse of Atlantic City past and present.

First opened in 1898, Atlantic City’s Steel Pier is located along one of the most historical pedestrian promenades in the world – The Atlantic City Boardwalk. Originally, Steel Pier was used as a theater, but later on on it morphed into a one of the most well known places for attractions including The Diving Bell, The Water Circus, and of course the famous Diving Horse.

After being rebuilt numerous times, including once by Mayor Bader (who was a main character in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire), the Catanosa family purchased the Steel Pier in 2011 and embarked on a multi-year plan, which included a $23 million renovation, to restore Atlantic City’s Steel Pier to its glory. Once considered the greatest entertainment venue in the United States, Steel Pier’s nickname as the “Showplace of the Nation” is making a comeback as the Catanosa family marries the iconic history of Atlantic City’s Steel Pier with new and exciting endeavors to bring it into 2015.

Family Fun at Atlantic City’s Steel Pier

Located just across the Boardwalk from popular casinos including Trump Taj Mahal and Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, Atlantic City’s Steel Pier extends 1,000 feet over the Atlantic Ocean. Steel Pier hosts over 25 kiddie and extreme rides, offering everything from a classic Double Decker Carousel and Ferris Wheel to more modern (and a little terrifying, but in a good way) rides like the Freedom Flyer and Slingshot that travels at more than 100 miles per hour and is 225 feet of pure adrenalin.

Take advantage of Steel Pier’s ticket specials including Two Ticket Tuesdays from 1-5pm when all rides are just two tickets. If you’re making a day of it, check out the Thursday wristband special where you can ride till your heart’s content for just one price. Stay up to day on upcoming events, discounts, and exclusive coupons when you join the Diving Horse Club, which is free to enroll in!

For those looking to up the ante, the Steel Pier helicopter ride is the perfect bet. Take in spectacular views of the Jersey Shore coastline and the Atlantic City skyline for as little as $49 per person. With additional attractions like the Observation Wheel that’s set to arrive from Venice, Italy by Labor Day joining Steel Pier, there’s no denying it that this Jersey Shore playground will be bigger and better than ever.

Whether you’re bringing the family or just taking a break from the casinos, Steel Pier offers everything a day on the Jersey Shore should entail. With rides, games in the arcade, and of course, tasty boardwalk treats in the food kiosks, spending a day at Steel Pier is a blast from the past. Treat your family at the Ocean Reef Bar & Grill and Steel Pier Pub, for breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and live music almost any day of the week. We doubt they’ll be any complaints!

If you haven’t been lately, it’s time for you and your family to check out the New Steel Pier! It’s Atlantic City at its best!
