Rainy Day Fun: Jersey Shore Indoor Activities for Kids and Adults

Rainy Day Fun: Jersey Shore Indoor Activities for Kids and Adults

In the summer, bad weather can change your plans in a heartbeat. What may have been a beach day could suddenly turn into thunderstorms or 95 degree heat that you’ll do anything to stay away from. Bummer. However, it doesn’t mean that you have to sit inside all day twiddling your thumbs. There are a number of great Jersey Shore indoor activities that everyone from kids to adults will enjoy just as much as the beach.

From painting to movies, arcade games, and so much more, no matter what age you are there are plenty of Jersey Shore indoor things to do. Let your kids get their energy out at any one of the play gyms or take some lessons to learn a new skill. There’s even fun for the adults (drinking and crafting is a thing and it’s awesome.)

So put on the rain boots and get out to go in. There will be plenty of sunny days to enjoy the beach so embrace the rain and have some fun!

Jersey Shore Indoor Activities for Kids and Adults

iPlay America, Freehold

Take a stroll down the “indoor” Jersey Shore at iPlay America, one of the best places to hunker down when the weather just isn’t cooperating with your outdoor plans. Spend the day playing boardwalk games at the indoor boardwalk, driving along the iPA Speedway, hanging out in the 4D Theater, eating all of your boardwalk favorites and maybe catching a concert. They’re also just opened an all new ropes course – the largest indoor one in NJ – and the new spinning coaster Freedom Rider. Yeah, who needs the outdoors? 110 Schanck Road, Freehold (732) 577-8200 http://www.iplayamerica.com

Gravity Vault, Middletown

When the skies are grey, take the opportunity to learn a new skill – how about rock climbing? Yea, it’s as awesome as it sounds. Kids and adults can visit Gravity Vault in Middletown for “climb time” on over 14,000 square feet of rock climbing walls that includes everything from overhangs to arches and even boulders. Take a class and then watch as you climb to the top! Anytime the kids are on a break from school (hello, summer), they offer Break Camps for a few days of activity, or go for the more in-depth Camp Rocks. Adults can try their new Yoga for Climbers classes and fitness classes as well! 37 Kanes Lane, Middletown (732) 856-9599 http://www.gravityvault.com/locations/middletown-nj

Hot Sand Studio, Asbury Park

Have you ever blown your own glass before? Well thank the rain because Hot Sand tops the list at one of our favorite Jersey Shore indoor things to do. On any given day, walk into the studio and create a one-of-a-kind glass object with your very own breath. It’s time to put all that hot air to work! 550 Cookman Ave, Asbury Park (732) 927-5475 http://www.hotsandap.com

Jenkinson’s Aquarium, Pt. Pleasant Beach

Nemo, Crush, and even Bruce are awaiting a visit at Jenkinson’s Aquarium. (If you don’t know who they are, just ask your kids). Watch as the seals do somersaults, the penguins waddle and swim, and the sharks, well be sharks. You can even check out the touch tank to see what some of your favorite seafood friends feel like without having to get your feet wet. 300 Ocean Ave, Point Pleasant Beach (732) 892-0600 http://jenkinsons.com

Phoenix Productions, Red Bank
Spend a day at the theatre with Phoenix Productions! Their next show is Tommy by The Who, July 15-July 24 at the Count Basie Theatre. Or, your child can feel like the star of the show themselves with musical theatre summer camps! 59 Chestnut Street, Red Bank (732) 747-0014

Casino Pier Arcade, Seaside Heights
and Jenkinson’s Arcade, Point Pleasant Beach
Can’t stay away from the boardwalk, even if the weather wants to keep you inside? One of our favorite Jersey Shore indoor activities is spending some time (and a lot of quarters) in a boardwalk arcade. It has everything from classic skeeball to new video games. And if the sun decides to peak out, you’re only steps away from outdoor rides and the beach. Casino Pier in Seaside Heights (800 Ocean Terrace, Seaside Heights (732) 793-6488) is always a fun option, or of course Jenkinson’s in Point Pleasant Beach (300 Ocean Ave, Point Pleasant Beach (732) 892-0600)! https://casinopiernj.com and http://jenkinsons.com

Silverball Pinball Museum Hall of Fame, Asbury Park

Step back in time at the Silverball Pinball Museum Hall of Fame on the Asbury Park boardwalk. Play over 100 different pinball machines as you indulge in tasty boardwalk treats like pretzels and hot dogs. It’s one of those indoor Jersey Shore activities that will make you feel like a pinball wizard. 1000 Ocean Ave, Asbury Park (732) 774-4994  http://silverballmuseum.com

Insectropolis, Toms River

Warning, Insectropolis may be the coolest place that you ever bring your kids, especially if they’re into slimy, hairy, winged, and multi legged insects. Not only can you get up close and personal with these sometimes cute and at other times a little scary insects, but your kids will also be learning in a bug-themed building of all places. 1761 Route 9, Toms River (732) 349-7090 http://www.insectropolis.com

Monmouth Museum, Lincroft

We know, a museum might not get your family jumping into the car this weekend, however, Monmouth Museum is anything but ordinary. Featuring changing exhibitions in art, history and science, the Monmouth Museum has something for everyone. Browse the main Gallery or bring the kids to the WonderWing or Children’s Wing for hands on learning for all ages. You’ll be surprised when you hear love and museum in the same sentence. http://monmouthmuseum.org

ArtSea Gallery, Sea Bright
This art gallery in Sea Bright offers a variety of classes for kids and adults, and the grown-ups can feel free to BYOB! Classes include fabric painting, knitting, glass painting and more! 1112 Ocean Ave, Sea Bright (732) 530-3632

Lucy’s Bead Boutique
Lucy’s Bead Boutique is a great place for adults to go to socialize and make some beautiful jewelry! They have all the beads and patterns you could need, plus classes for beginners to advanced beaders. 3241 NJ-88 Suite 1, Point Pleasant (848) 232-3690

Play Day Place, Forked River

Kids can run, crawl, and jump away the rainy day blues all afternoon at Play Day Place. With over 5,500 square feet of area to play in, kids of all sizes will have fun exploring the three-tier soft play structure, climbing up the climbing walls, and even getting their bounce on in the Bounce House. Add on an obstacle course, velcro wall, and virtual playground, it’s every kid’s dream. http://www.playdayplace.com

Bradley Beach Bowl & Recreation Center, Bradley Beach

This classic game really does make everyone smile. Spend the day indoors with the family getting strikes, spares, and well, gutter balls at the Bradley Beach Bowl and Recreation Center. And when the kids get hungry and the adults get thirsty, order up some cold ones (soda or beer) at the attached Ground Round where kids can eat their fair share of popcorn. It’s a great way to spend some spare time (we couldn’t help ourselves) with your friends and family! http://www.bradleybowling.com
