Dessert-lovers, rejoice! You may have seen our past mouthwatering list of the best Jersey Shore desserts, but now we’re back with some of our new favorites, as well as the old standbys. This list has it all covered: from cookie butter and cake pops to ice cream and doughnuts. And of course the occasional cupcake. The best thing? These are all locally owned businesses whipping up the best Jersey Shore desserts, sweets and treats.
Breakfast, dessert, a midday indulgence… no matter what it is your sweet tooth craves, our Jersey Shore is home to a lot of killer sweets that you simply can’t miss out on.
Broad Street Dough Co., Oakhurst: The Broad Street
If you’ve been to Broad Street Dough Co., you know how hard it is to pick a favorite from their one-of-a-kind menu (luckily it’s socially acceptable to buy doughnuts by the dozen). They have decadent new daily specials all the time, but if we had to choose a favorite specialty of theirs, it would be the Broad Street: a cake doughnut dipped in chocolate and topped with pretzels, peanuts, and caramel. They’ve also got “vlugen” doughnuts and are certified kosher!
If it really is true that “life is like a box of chocolates”, then I can only hope that my life will be like a box of Suzi’s chocolate covered pretzels. Creamy milk chocolate, decadent dark chocolate, crunchy and salty pretzels… You always know what you’re going to get with Suzi’s Sweet Shoppe, and that’s delicious, quality chocolates.

Sometimes the simplest flavors make for the best dessert. Confections of a Rockstar’s take on a classic birthday cake is one of those desserts! It’s the flavors of your youth in cupcake form, and much better than mom ever made. Call ahead and they’ll even do curbside pickup!
Joe Leone’s is well known at The Shore for offering quality Italian specialties and prepared foods. Their desserts, though, are a bit more of a hidden gem. We can’t think of any better way to finish off a hearty Italian dinner than with some Pignoli cookies from Joe Leone’s – a classic Italian sweet that will please any crowd.
Okay, yes, another cupcake has made our list of the Jersey Shore’s best sweets, but this is no ordinary cupcake. The Dessert Bar specializes in alcohol-infused cupcakes. That’s right, a sweet little dessert that will also give you a buzz. The Margarita cupcake is our favorite: yellow cake infused with Patron and fresh lime juice, topped with Patron buttercream, a lime wedge and crystallized sugar. That’ll go down easier than a shot will, that’s for sure!
Ferrara’s and their loyal customers claim this is the “best jelly doughnut on the planet”. Now, we haven’t tried every jelly doughnut on the planet (one can only dream), but we’re willing to back up that statement as well. A fluffy doughnut filled with sweet jelly and the light crunch of a sugary coating. Simple, but unbeatable.
It’s no secret that New Jersey is sort of dominated by Italians. Everyone has their go-to local Italian bakery, and in turn, their favorite cannolis, so we understand that this may be a controversial decision. But the cannolis at La Scala Italian Pastry Shop are truly incredible – they taste just like grandma used to make.
Papa Ganache, Matawan: Crème Brûlée Cupcake
It really can’t be argued that Papa Ganache has some of The Shore’s best sweets; they won The Food Network’s Cupcake Wars! And the cupcake that won them that title is as delicious as it is unique: vanilla cake, custard filling, vanilla frosting, and a crunchy, caramelized, torched layer of sugar on top. And the craziest thing about all this? It’s vegan and gluten free. No, really, we were shocked too.
Simona’s Bakery, Sea Girt: Apple Pie Macaron
What do you get when you cross America’s favorite dessert with France’s favorite dessert? Simona’s apple pie macaron. You might be thinking identity crisis, but we’re thinking we’ll take a dozen of those (at least).
Baked on the Beach – Cinnamon Buns
Baked on the Beach only opened a few months ago, in the summer of 2015, but already, their cinnamon buns are grabbing a lot of attention. That’s how you know they’re good. Get them fresh out of the oven while they’re still warm and gooey. Now that is a breakfast of champions.
