November Fall Events & Activities


With November almost here and the holidays fast approaching, take a look at some local events happening in your area before the holiday rush begins. Unwind at a winery, get creative at a craft workshop, and even attend a cow parade. Here are the top events to check out in November.

The Great Pumpkin Sail – Mountainside

Friday, November 1st – 5:15 – 9:30pm

Save your jack-o-lanterns and give them a proper send-off at The Great Pumpkin Sail at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside. Tickets go on sale October 1st at 9:00 a.m. at ucnj.org/ticket. Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be sold on-site. The Great Pumpkin Sail will take place on November 1st, with three sessions scheduled. The first session will run from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m., the second from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m., and the final from 8:15 to 9:30 p.m. In case of rain, The Great Pumpkin Sail will be held on 11/2.

Cow Parade – Lawrenceville

Saturday, November 2nd – 1pm

Cherry Grove Farm’s annual Cow Parade celebrates and honors their cows who provide fresh milk daily, from which they make all their farmstead cheeses. After milking on November 2nd, around 4 – 4.30 p.m., you can watch as the cows, adorned with garlands, bells, and flowers, parade from the milking parlor, down the lane and around the field back to their pasture. This parade takes after the Swiss tradition of bringing the cows down from the mountains where they have been grazing all summer. The autumnal festival features hay rides, face painting, bouncy house, kids’ games, food, music, beer, local artisanal vendors and more. Then the Cows Parade. The day ends with a bonfire where s’mores will be available for purchase.

Experience the Aurora – Robert J. Novins Planetarium

Over seven months in the Arctic Circle, their  crews captured timelapse images of the Aurora Borealis with high resolution digital SLR cameras outfitted with fisheye lenses. The results are spectacular. For the first time the aurora has been captured as it was meant to be experienced, as a display that covers the entire sky. This immersive show shares the science behind the aurora and tells the story of our quest to find and photograph the aurora for wraparound display in fulldome theaters.

Winter Wonderland Illuminated Walking Trail – Medford

Nov 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 – 5-9pm

Your night begins with a stroll through the woods filled with fun snowmen and trees made with upcycled materials from the farm. You’ll pass by illuminated boxes with miniature scenes, including a Fairy Garden! Further down the trail, you might even stumble upon a secret gnome village. The path flows out of the woods and into the Live Christmas Tree fields, where you will find a GINORMOUS sled. From there you can waddle past a penguin igloo town, take a family pic at Stan’s Photo Stop — a hut made of doors — “fly by” Birdhouse Row — but watch out for a runaway toboggan! Make your way into our White Pine tree field to experience a tunnel of lights snowing down on you. At the trail’s end, we have the Grand Finale: Rita’s Splendiferous Village. Here you can fully embrace the magic and wonder of the holiday spirit, with a seemingly never-ending display of miniature towns and festive decor.

Official Winter Village at The Red Mill Museum – Clinton

This SIX-day outdoor, tented and heated, winter craft market in the heart of Clinton, New Jersey features over 50 local craft artisans, activities, and food trucks each day. This event is dog-friendly for well-behaved pups. Red Mill Museum Village’s Annual Festival of Trees decorates the grounds with holiday trees decorated by community members and local organizations. Vote on your favorites in multiple categories. Guests are invited to tour 12 historic buildings on the beautifully decorated grounds of the museum while enjoying performances by Clinton’s ‘Dickens Days’ theatrical carolers.

Old Fashioned Christmas on the Farm & Walk Through Light Show – Wall Township

This is the second year Allaire Community Farm has covered all 25 acres of the Farm in Christmas spirit and turned the  Farm into a life-sized Christmas village! Somehow with even more lights than last years event. Upon arrival, you and your entire family can stroll over to the historic 100-year-old Barn that has been converted into a Farmers Market. Here you can pay your admission while looking at beautiful Christmas village display. Make sure to get your feed bags, Polar Express tickets, Yuletide wagon ride tickets, and hot chocolate! As you exit the market and begin your journey down into the Farm, you will feel as though you are in a magical Lifesize Christmas village. Your eyes will be filled with sparkle as you and your family get a bright holistic view of your journey to come. Down the hill, you can visit the indoor and outdoor petting zoos, have pictures with Santa in the museum, relax & watch classic holiday movies and holiday displays in the pavilion, visit the  Model Train House, and immerse yourself in our picturesque holiday ambiance across the Farm!
